Biden Administration’s Immigration Plan

President Biden making a speech

United States President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn in at noon on January 20, 2021, to the delight of many. Many world leaders congratulated U.S. President Joe Biden on his victory. Leaders all over the world saw this win as a chance to strengthen global democracy while celebrating the importance of Americans having their first female vice president. Most Western allies immediately embraced a fresh start with a new administration in Washington.

The Biden Administration plans to repeal the previous administration’s punitive approach to immigration while working on strategies to address the causes of migration. Biden described his plan to build new legal pathways for immigration and update the process for people asking for asylum. He plans to change the former administration’s harsh immigration policies.

Biden has started an initial move for a bill that would open a path for citizenship for the approximately 11 million people living in the United States illegally. However, his allies in Congress acknowledge that it may be a difficult undertaking. Joe Biden believes that an undeniable source of our strength comes from the immigrant community.

He acknowledges that throughout the generations, immigrants have arrived at the shores of America with little to no money or belongings but still manage to create decent lives for themselves and their children. Many of them do this with little more than the clothes on their backs, sheer determination, and hope to have their portion of the American Dream.

He believes that this determination is one of the reasons we have continually been able to renew ourselves, to improve, and become stronger as a nation that meets new challenges. He sees immigration as fundamental to America’s identity, core values, and future aspirations. The Biden Administration has promised to embrace immigrants who are a part of what makes America proudly unique. The new immigration policy will reflect America’s highest values as a nation.

Under the last immigration system, there was a heavy strain on diplomatic relations with other nations and the United States due to misguided policies. The past administration also failed to invest in smarter border technology that would improve cargo screening.

President Biden quickly began the deconstruction of the Southern Border wall and several other immigration policies of the prior administration, such as the pre-COVID travel bans.

On its first day, Biden’s Administration revealed the framework for a comprehensive immigration reform bill entitled the U.S. Citizenship Act (USCA) of 2021. Among its main goals, the USCA would: (1) provide pathways to citizenship and strengthen labor protections; (2) prioritize smart border controls; and (3) address root causes of migration.

Even with all these positive changes, the process of immigration can be tedious and confusing. It is always a wise decision to hire the best lawyer who is passionate about immigration and immigrant rights.
